Avoiding Mergers

I chose this picture because at the bottom of the picture it shows that the guys' legs are cut off. Avoiding mergers is basically when the picture isn't good enough all around so they cut off some parts for a certain reason.

Framing

I chose this photo because the framing of the window makes it look like there's actually a frame around it. Framing is when the picture looks like there was some sort of 'frame' there.

Balance

I chose this picture for balance because if you were to cut this picture in half, it would basically be even. Therefore, the meaning of balance is revealed.

Lines

I chose this picture for lines because it shows 3 different subjects in the photo. Each of the subjects include lines. I felt like this was a "triple whammy" since I had few objects with the meaning of lines.

The Rule of Thirds

this was a tough photo to use for the rule of thirds because the other photos didn't necessarily have the correct meaning. I chose this photo because it has the american flag, but also cause it has a background. There is a building behind it, so not all of the attention is only towards the colored flag.

Simplicity

Simplicity to me was literally this photo. The picture taken shows simplicity because there's an empty field of green grass, and trees in the back. What's more simple than trees and grass?

Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 3

Three of the most important things for photographers to remember when out shooting that i saw where for 1.) to look at things from different angles to get the best shot and not too let an awkward angle to deter you from your inspiration. Another important tip was 2.) Looking for that moment of bigger then life explosion of happening and action that hooks peoples attention, and also those quiet moments. The Final Tip 3.) is mainly the connection between the painter and the subject, like in the most recognizable photo in the world(The Mona Lisa), which is what every photographer should be looking for when they take a portrait.

This man doing a portrait of this woman i believe didn't fully use all the rules, but he's a up and coming artist. A style that would influence me I can't really say because I'm a all around person so I'm kinda susceptible to all styles.

Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 2

  1. I picked this photo because it adds huge effect on her skin. it shows every detail and definitely brings out her eyes and red lipstick.
  2. Local Portrait and Personality
  3. 1st Place award
  4. He had the flash on which made her eyes very blue.
  5. The subject must have gotten a 9 or 10, it's an incredible photo it deserves such a high number
  6. He definitely had to put more makeup on her skin to make her face look highly detailed.
  1. I picked this photo because the whole background looks detailed.
  2. Sports Action
  3. Honorable Mention Award
  4. The photographer was at an angle which captured everything
  5. This photography must have gotten an 8 or 9 because of the quality of the picture and the background. Plus, it's an action photo.
  6. The photographer definitely had to get a perfect angle in order to get this picture the way it is.
  1. I picked this photo because it's edited in grayscale.
  2. Photojournalist of the Year
  3. 3rd Place award
  4. The gallons and the cross looks really good in this photo. The quality is so good, it had nice touches.
  5. I think this picture got at least a 7 because it's not the best photo but it definitely had some major points that grabbed my attention.
  6. The photographer must have took several photos to make it to this lovely portrait. It was a great idea to put the black and white effect.

Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 1

I like this type of work, the only trick is you can really only do this too specific pictures. For instance all of the photos are mainly tall buildings or tall objects but these pictures are pretty raw. From looking eat these photos it looks like he messed with about 4 of the same photos and cropped them an put them all together to make one. Some good buildings for this type of work would definitely be downtown north austin like the Frost Bank tower, The Capitol, and most of the other buildings down town. And that one skyscraper the Burj Khalifa would definitely be a good picture.

Photo Manipulation & Ethics

There was a photographer who went to view her pictures but found that it was manipulated with. The site used was "Adobe Photoshop" and can be used to change people in pictures, almost as if copy and paste pretty much. When people send their pictures to "big" people like the newspaper or some sort of magazine, they get caught at least a week later. Once each photographer got caught, they lost there job. In other words, don't use photoshop because it will cost you your job & people will know who messed with the photos. I believe that photo editing is highly unacceptable because it's not the real picture. In photography, you're suppose to catch those moments that seem real to you, that have some sort of meaning. It's obviously not real anymore if you have to photoshop or photo edit the pictures.

This picture is very unethical because there really is no point with the extra darkness on the picture. they used a spotlight sort of effect which honestly I think is very useless.

I feel that this picture is somewhat acceptable because it's just the pyramids have been scooted a little closer. None of the facts have changed, but it's not obvious at all. Atleast they didn't 'delete' a pyramid.

National Geographic Warm-Up

this is my favorite picture because I love dolphins! the water looks really cool coming from the snout. the background adds a nice effect because it's not too bright nor too dull.

A photo I would submit would be one of black people doing stuff that white people do because I want everyone to know that anyone can do anything.

Touching Strangers

I’m ambivalent at the weirdness of touching strangers.  it's strange because they seem like they are so close with each other to be touching legs, and hands. they smile like it's no big deal. I honestly would probably participate in the shooting if the person that asked didn't seem like much of a creeper.  I would be shocked, but hey at least they had the nerve to come up to me and ask right? A photo shoot that I think will be fun to shoot is umm, trying to make ugly faces and having the person laugh. It would be fun because it sounds like it would be a good time. I think the photos are great! I enjoy looking at them. You can see a connection between the two people in the photo so it doesn't seem as awkward .

40 Greatest Photos Taken

-Aaron Thompson
I picked this photo because it's a little boy who's taking the flag from his father's memorial. the photographer made a great shot by the angle. the lieutenant has his right hand on the flag. the little boy looks like he's trying to be strong, but is obviously upset. I believe this photographer made the top 40 because it shows a boy being strong for his dad at the memorial service. it has our nation's flag, and they are both suited up which makes the picture look nice.

-Vanderlei Almeida
I picked this photo because it's a dog next to a buried grave. i think it's so sad because all the other graves are emptied and the dog stays laying next to the grave. the photographer made this an excellent photo because there are very little color which makes the cross and dog easier to spot. this photo in my opinion made the top 40 because it's genuine and sincere to have a dog laying next to a grave.

-Rich Lam
I picked this photo because it's so cute! a couple laying together because the girl got knocked down by one of the guards. it shows that he cares. the photographer made this a great photo because it has the main focus on the couple while everything else is blurred out. all the police guards in the back add a nice touch to the photo because it shows that the situation they are in is very serious. I can see why this photo made the top 40 because not only is it romantic, but it's powerful. girls like to see this kind of photography. (:

First Photos- Best and Worst

I like this first photo above a lot because Mr. Doerr is smiling. It was a still photo and he had his his 'thumbs up' pose. Its a great photo because he's dressed properly and he was also prepared for the shutter of my camera.
I dislike this photo a lot just because his hands were shaky. He wasn't looking at the camera, and the picture was not to still. His hands moved and the stance looks uncomfortable.

Camera History & Parts

The camera obscura effect was discovered by greek an chinese philosophers and came to be know as the first camera, the obscura effect is achieved when inside a dark room a small hole in the wall projects light an through the hole the light is focused on the opposite wall upside down. In the 17th century Isaac Newton an Christian Huygens pieced together an perfected high quality glass lenses and optics, thus bringing man a step closer to modern cameras. In 1827 Joseph Nicephore added the last pice of the equation to successfully build the first portable camera, film. Still to this day Nicephores camera and modern cameras are very similar when it comes to the aiming, pointing, and shooting. Digital cameras capture pictures with an electronic sensor called a CCD unlike nicephores did. When taking a picture you have two modes Auto ( which is when the camera will completely control flash an exposer) and Program ( which is basic point and shoot and unlike auto you can control flash and a few other camera options). The portrait mode is when the camera will try to blur out the background. The sports mode is mostly used for sports or fast moving moments which freezes the moment, the camera will try to use to fastest shutter. The half press is a easy and essential step to help beginners  with a camera due to its faster camera response time, more control over focus, and encourages better composition. Disabled flash, which is when the flash is off and the camera uses natural light. The auto flash, which is usually on by default will flash if the camera thinks it needs more light. When your photo is exposed to too much light it will be washed out or too bright. If the photo doesn't receive enough light it will be too dark. The term " Stop" represents a change in the light. The new stop will be 1 stop brighter if the new planet has two sons instead of one. If there is 4 sons instead of 1 then the stop will be two times brighter. A longer shutter speed has more light vs. a shorter shutter speed which has less light. The aperture is like the pupil of your eye, you can increase the amount of light with the aperture by making the opening of the aperture larger.
