Vocabulary Words

  • Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight, and is measured by the angle or semi-angle of inclination between those two lines.
  • pentaprism is a five-sided reflecting prism used to deviate a beam of light by a constant 90°, even if the entry beam is not at 90° to the prism.
  • An autofocus system uses a sensor, a control system and a motor to focus fully automatic or on a man optical manually selected point or area.
  • A pixel is a physical point in arrestor image or the smallest, addressable element in a display device; so it is the smallest, controllable element of a picture represented on the screen.


Aperture-hole or an opening through which light travels.
Shutter-device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.
Exposure-presentation to view, especially in an open or public manner
Depth of Field-the range of distances along the axis of an optical instrument,usually a camera lens.
F-Stop-the setting of an adjustable lens apertureas indicated by an number.
Focal length-the distance from a focal point of a lens or mirror to thecorresponding principal plane.
